ARTIST STATEMENT
My art work explores my never ending fascination with texture, form, and color. I describe my art as "contemporary mixed media", which means I'm primarily applying acrylic paints and mediums onto wood, canvas, metal, paper, or anything else that interests me at the time. Often, I mix new materials with recycled objects. My latest collection of art works delve into abstraction, and my aim is to make something visually enticing like a rich plate of dessert.
Trained in design as well as art, I first started painting with acrylic on canvas in 1993. Eventually, I developed a technique of layering metallic paint with solid colors to achieve iridescence and vibrancy. Depending on the light source, the colors may change relative to the angle they are viewed. Each year my color palette changes, and I've never found a color I didn't find interesting. My recent art work has become more dimensional, and I'm always experimenting with my next new idea.
In addition to my work as an artist, I also design exterior and interior color schemes, cabinetry and storage systems, and functional art.
Originally from the Berkshires in Massachusetts, I received my Associate of Arts degree from Simon's Rock College, and my Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Design from the University of California, Davis. In addition to my work as a full time artist, I participate in the Truckee community as a Historic Preservation Advisory Commissioner, and as a contributing writer for our local independent newspaper, Moonshine Ink.
